A government programme administered by local authorities to help “troubled families” has not only produced significant money saving it has also helped turn lives around and produce more responsible citizens.
In Sandwell 567 families have benefitted from the scheme with an estimated £47.5 million saving to taxpayers. Across the whole of the West Midlands 6,200 families have been given help and £468 million saved.
“Troubled families” are identified as those with children involved in crime, ant- social behaviour or school truanting or when an adult is receiving out of work benefits.
The scheme involves a multi agency approach with Job Centre Plus, the police and councils all involved to attempt solutions to the problems these families have and is working well with large numbers of families benefitting from that help and ceasing to fall into the category of troubled
