Sandwell council has announced an extension to its free swimming programme for the over 60’s and children.
The facility, which began in June 2013, will now run for the next two years.
Sandwell residents, aged 60+, can swim free at any public sessions in the borough’s leisure centres before 1 p.m and children get free swimming in school holidays.
The projected cost of this is £368,000 over two years but, with the aims of maintaining fitness in those over 60, giving kids something productive to do and tackling child obesity, it is money well spent and may by keeping people healthier produce savings to the NHS.
