Cllr Trumpeter joined Conservative counterpart Cllr Fisher in May 2022 after being elected in Charlemont with Grove Vale with a 350 majority.
Since being elected, Les has worked seamlessly with Cllr Fisher and has quickly hit the ground running, meeting with a variety of community groups and individuals, and holds regular street surgeries which rotate across the ward.
“I am keen to raise the standards in our ward after more than a decade of Labour neglect and ‘levelling down’. I have already made inroads in building on the good work of Cllr Fisher and have made numerous strong relationships with residents and community figures and groups. I intend to secure our green spaces and community assets, which is evident from my work on saving our community centre, and I will not accept the loss of any green space. We recently campaigned heavily to save some public open space off Charlemont Road which was deemed open to offer and I am pleased to say this land has been secured for the public. I’m currently in the process of completing a ward wide ‘audit’ and I will report everything I do not deem satisfactory or to my own high standards’"
Les has also raised a significant matter in the council chamber regarding The Hawthorns (West Bromwich Albion stadium) being granted an Asset of Community Value status, which has gained large traction and momentum within the fanbase and media. "There are concerns amongst fans that the majority shareholder of WBA could sell The Hawthorns through the back door and then the club would have to lease back its own ground. So, we want The Hawthorns listed as an Asset of Community Vale with Sandwell Council, just like Old Trafford, Anfield and other grounds are. This would mean an extra layer of security because the owners would have to notify Sandwell Council before they sell the ground, which would give fans the chance to buy it first."
Les has lived in West Bromwich his whole life and knows the town inside out from his time living in Greets Green, Tantany and Lyndon. Charlemont is where Les and his young family now call home, after moving to the area in 2013.
Outside of politics, Les is a Director of a Sandwell based Health & Social Care company and a Director-Trustee of a West Bromwich based charity.
